About

The General Elections in the Republic of Mauritius will take place on 5 May 2010.

On that day, we will have to vote for those whom we feel will better manage our country for the coming five years. To be able to do that, we need to know what each candidate is proposing to do if he/she gets elected.

This is how I got the idea about Elections.mu: a political blog where any (serious) blogger can offer to become a contributor to write about what is happening in his/her own constituency. As you can see, our posts fall under five different categories: opinions, reports, interviews, facts and folklore. I have asked a number of well-known bloggers from different constituencies to contribute posts to Elections.mu. If you would like to contribute, just send me an email at avinash AT noulakaz DOT net.

Here are the contributors:

Naturally, the opinions expressed here are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the positions of Elections.mu.

I want to be 100% clear about the revenue stream for Elections.mu: the only income we make (if any) is through our Google Adsense advertisements. More precisely, Elections.mu is 100% independent and does not receive any money from any candidate or political party.

Thank you for visiting Elections.mu

    This blog is cool – behold open media (or should I say – new media?) at work.

    Avinash,

    What, according to you, is the best online way of following the results’ progress tomorrow? Typically: something with “real time” updates and providing the breakdown per constituency.
    I’ll be at work and without access to any social networking site.

    Thanks!

    Carl

    @Carl

    Avinash and myself will be posting updates from time to time on Elections.mu. I would advise you to follow our online newspapers but I don’t know if you’ll get real time data. Twitter is also good: Avinash will regularly tweet at http://twitter.com/AvinashMeetoo

    @Christina

    I should have access to here and the online newspapers but not to twitter.

    Thanks!

    Will you be releasing the stats of the blog soon?

  • avinash (author) said:

    @Fadil What stats?

  • Fadil said:

    for one, traffic.

  • avinash (author) said:

    @Fadil

    I can tell you that, since launching Elections.mu, we’ve had 6,565 visits and the average time spent by a visitor is 4:14 which is very good.

    Of course, this is a consequence of people like you who have greatly contributed to the discussions. I’ve also given a few interviews in the local press which has helped.

    The idea is to continue growing Elections.mu. Of course, traffic is less now that the elections are over. But, as you know, on the web, things take some time and, at the end of the day, everything depends on the quality of the content.

    Incidentally, would you like to be a regular contributor?
